Thilo Kehrer: The man PSG ‘stole’ from Barcelona

In addition to his new club Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona had long followed the progress of defender Thilo Kehrer.

Both clubs had been keeping close tabs on the versatile defender, with a view to potentially making a move for him.

The Catalan club made their move in a bid to sign the 21-year-old from Schalke at the beginning of last week, one which ended with him moving to PSG on Sunday.

“After weeks of negotiations, Schalke have agreed to the transfer of Thilo Kehrer to PSG,” read a statement from the Bundesliga side.

Thus ended a transfer saga in which two league champions fought for his services but only one managed to snap him up.

According to a report in L’Equipe on Monday, the French champions were more skilful in their negotiations, completing their second signing of the summer after Gianluigi Buffon’s arrival, by signing the defender for 37 million euros on a five-year deal.

Despite being just 21, he already has extensive experience with Schalke, playing 45 Bundesliga games and scoring four goals, while also playing eight times in the Europa League and six times in the German Cup.
