Real Madrid think again about signing Mariano

Real Madrid have not had their final word yet on striker Mariano and due to the deal that saw him go to Lyon initially, they can now step in if they choose and bring him back to the Bernabeu rather than see him go to Sevilla.

With a deal struck between the French club and Sevilla, the terms of the move to Lyon meant that Madrid could torpedo any follow on transfer within 48 hours of an agreement.

Madrid’s interest in Mariano is not new, it has been going on throughout this transfer window following his 21 goals last season.

When they spoke to the Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, he made it clear that his intention was to move the player to the Premier League and make 70 million euros from him. Madrid are ready to negotiate, but not pay that amount even if they do hold 35% of his future sell on price.

In the end Mariano didn’t go to the Premier League and Sevilla came into the picture, who are ready to bring in the play for 30 million euros plus another five, performance related. Lyon got back in touch with Madrid to inform them of the offer on the table and it got the board thinking.

They would make 12 million euros from a sale to Sevilla but also what they could do with a player that to them would cost 25 million euros.

Right now sevilla’s offer is firm, Lyon have made the communication and now it is down to Madrid to act within 48 hours.
