Real Madrid fail to sell out stadiums in the US
It appears that Real Madrid, without their stars, aren’t quite the box office attraction many expected them to be. Even Julen Lopetegui’s debut wasn’t enough to sell out all the tickets for their first match in the International Champions Cup.
In fact, there were 2,830 unsold tickets from the 67,000 available according to AS. The chance to see last season’s Champions League winners face off against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United didn’t stop there being many visible, empty seats in the Hard Rock Stadium.
Furthermore, their next match against Juventus in Washington has also failed to sell out.
The organisers of the tournament have blamed this on “the absence of the World Cup stars” and said they expected this to happen. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus coupled with the other players who were involved in Russia still being on holiday has meant that Real Madrid’s star power in America is considerably less this year.
