Jose Mourinho wants to give Andreas Pereira a chance to prove his worth at Manchester United this season.
The 22-year-old midfielder was one shining light during United’s ill-fated pre-season tour of America after a year away at Valencia.
Mourinho was left shocked this time last year when Pereira decided on a loan spell in La Liga rather than fight for his place at Old Trafford.
Pereira made 29 appearances for Valencia, scoring once, after having enjoyed a strong loan stint at Granada the season before. The Brazil Under 23 international believes he has returned a more rounded player.
The United manager is hopeful the academy graduate will remain at the club this term after landing just one midfield target, Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, during a summer of frustration.
Mourinho is keen for some additional flair in midfield and the stunning free-kick Pereira scored during the 4-1 defeat by Liverpool caught the eye.
