Marotta confirms Juve would only sign Howedes on loan with option to buy

Beppe Marotta confirms Juventus would only sign Benedikt Howedes “on loan with option to buy,” while dropping Emre Can hints and clarifying the Patrik Schick situation.

The Bianconeri visit Genoa in this evening’s Serie A game, follow the build-up and action on the Liveblog.

When director general Marotta was approached by Italian television before kick-off, he was naturally asked about reports Schalke 04 have rejected a loan with option to buy for total €10m.

“Howedes wants to join Juve, but that is not enough. We are negotiating with Schalke and if we do close a deal, it’ll be on loan with option to buy,” the director told Mediaset Premium.

“If it’s not done over the next few days, we will seek alternatives.”

It was also suggested today in La Gazzetta dello Sport that Emre Can has given his word to join Juve as a free agent when his Liverpool contract expires next summer.

“Liverpool are holding on tight to Emre Can. His contract expires in June, we’ll be able to negotiate with him from January. We won’t hide the fact we like him, but currently he is a Liverpool player, so we can only admire him from afar.”

There were reports this week for the first time since his medical in June that Juve were coming back in for Sampdoria striker Schick.

“As for Schick, it was a coincidence that I ran into (Sampdoria lawyer Antonio) Romei. We also spoke about Schick, but we admire a good talent and expressed regret that it ended this way.

“After the medical, we proposed a loan for €8m that would’ve taken €30m into their coffers. As far as we were concerned, the negotiations ended there and did not open up again.”

Max Allegri continues to leave the new signings on the bench so far this season.

“It’s only right that Daniele Rugani goes through his apprenticeship, just as Leonardo Bonucci did before him. Douglas Costa and Federico Bernardeschi are on long-term contracts, so there is plenty of time to get the best out of them and it starts with adapting the right way.”
