Lucas Vazquez: I think Modric is a Real Madrid player and will continue to be so

Despite beating Juventus 3-1 in the International Champions Cup, Lucas Vazquez was asked plenty of questions about off the field matters in the mixed zone, primarily the future of Luka Modric.

The Croatian has been linked with a move to Internazionale this summer but the club are insistent that he will not be sold, something the winger doubts the player wants either.

“We are calm and counting on him, we hope he returns to enjoy Madrid, I have no doubt that he will stay,” Vazquez said.

“Well, you never know in football, but I think that Luka is a Real Madrid player and will continue to be so.

“It’s how I feel, I’m not in his head, but I am sure that he wants to continue, we won’t get worked up.”

There has already been plenty of upheaval this summer with Julen Lopetegui replacing Zinedine Zidane as coach, a change Vazquez has welcomed.

“I hope to work to get the best out of me and everyone else, it’s still very early to look at the changes,” he said.

“The coach wants an intense pressure, very high up after losing the ball, slowly but surely he’ll see what he wants.

“His sacking was a difficult moment, days before the World Cup and it derailed everything.”

The Spanish winger was also joined by youngster Fede Valverde, who has had a key role to play in pre-season on the US tour.

“I’m enjoying every moment, in the hotel, everywhere, I have to enjoy it and see what happens,” he explained.

“I’m not thinking about anything else, only this tour, then if I stay it will be great and if I go I will work hard.

“If I go out on loan I’ll go to the club that wants me, if I stay it will make me very happy.”

The 20-year-old winger spent last season at Deportivo, making 24 appearances in LaLiga.
