Liverpool consider £15m Sheyi Ojo sale as West Brom lead race
The 21-year-old was left out of the Reds squad for their training camp in France this week as they weigh up a number of options.
Ojo has featured for Klopp’s side during pre-season, scoring against Manchester United in Michigan last weekend, but looks set for either a temporary or permanent move in the next week.
Klopp, speaking earlier this week, described the former MK Dons trainee as “a no-brainer”, adding that “I think that will happen. It makes sense for him to go on loan”.
The Reds’ asking price, which would see them look for £15 million ($20m) including add-ons, may prove a stumbling block, but the Baggies have expressed serious interest in Ojo, and could even look to arrange a loan-to-buy deal as they seek an immediate return to the Premier League.
Stoke City and Birmingham are also keen on a loan deal, while Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough have been monitoring the situation. Ojo spent last season at Fulham, but saw his campaign derailed by a shoulder injury and finished the year out of the Cottagers’ squad.
Liverpool will look to offload a number of other players before next week’s transfer deadline, with Danny Ings likely to join Crystal Palace in a £20m ($26m) deal and Divock Origi interesting Valencia.
Lazar Markovic and Simon Mignolet could also leave, although the European deadline extends until the end of August so the club are in less of a hurry to reach decisions over those players.
Liverpool will hand a debut to new goalkeeper Alisson Becker in Saturday’s friendly with Napoli in Dublin, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino are also set to feature and will be fit for the start of the Premier League season.
