Harry Maguire close to signing new £75,000 per week Leicester contract

Harry Maguire is close to agreeing an improved Leicester contract that will reflect his new status as a key England international.

Leicester have moved swiftly to ensure the defender’s place as a central figure in Claude Puel’s team is reflected with fresh terms.

It is understood Maguire will see his pay packet jump from £45,000 per week to £75,000 per week, positioning the 25-year-old amongst the club’s top earners.

Maguire still has four years to run on his current deal but Manchester United’s sustained interest and his performances at the World Cup meant negotiations were brought forward.

United were prepared to spend £65million to sign Maguire but Leicester insisted he was not for sale and it is now envisaged there will be no problems in putting the finishing touches to his new King Power contract.

Maguire demonstrated his ability at Old Trafford on Friday night, producing another accomplished display just four days after returning to training following his holidays.

Meanwhile Stoke are interested in signing Danny Simpson. The Leicester right-back, an important member of the side’s Premier League title campaign, is available after Puel fielded Daniel Amartey and Ricardo Pereira at United.

The 31-year-old has one year left on his Leicester contract and could move on loan or permanently. West Bromwich Albion are also looking for a right-back.
