Griezmann: “Simeone is the best tactical coach in the world”
In an interview with UEFA.com before the Europa League final, Griezmann thanks Simeone for helping him improve as a player and as a professional.
Atlético Madrid striker, Antoine Griezmann, said on Tuesday during an interview with UEFA.com that it’s a “a joy to work with” Diego Simeone and says winning the Europa League is very important for him. After winning the Spanish Super Cup, this could be Griezmann’s second title with the club.
Griezmann, who has been linked with a move away from Atlético Madrid and Diego Simeone, says that his current manager is ” the best tactical and defensive coach in the world” and that he shows it off on a yearly basis.
“He identifies every player’s weaknesses and tries to improve them, making you a more complete player. He has helped me grow both on a personal and professional level. He will always ask for the best of me and make me do my best, and I’ll always be there to help him and help win the games,” Griezmann says.
Diego Costa, who rejoined Atlético after a stint in the Premier League with Chelsea, has also spoken about Griezmann’s situation and the Frenchman says that Costa is “like a madman” in the dressing room.
“He creates a lot of space for me in between the opposition midfield and defence with his runs in behind, and I know he’ll be there to latch on to my through balls. We haven’t had that much time together, but we’re linking up well. He is like an animal on the pitch and he loves a scrap. The more he’s scrapping, the better he plays,” Griezmann says.
