Chelsea are ready to hijack Tottenham’s bid to land Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
The 22-year-old has been the subject of interest from Spurs all summer, but as of yet no move has been made.
And now their London rivals are ready to pounce, with a bid of £20million, according to the Sun.
Grealish spent last season in the Championship with Villa, failing at the final hurdle in a bid to help them earn promotion back to the Premier League when they lost the Play-Off Final to Fulham.
His captain last season was John Terry, an icon at Stamford Bridge, and it is thought he would approve of a deal taking the England international to Chelsea.
Villa have recently undergone a change in ownership, with Egyptian billionare Nassef Sawiris and American Wes Edens purchasing a controlling stake in the club.
As a result, there is no financial difficulty at the club, however, FFP rules mean their may be a necessity to earn back the money spent on transfers last season.
Villa begin their third-straight season in the Championship with a trip to Hull on Monday night.
They have struggled to recruit this summer, largely due to takeover negotiations, with just goalkeeper Andre Moreira brought in from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal.
