Fernando Torres will be looking to win his first major title with his boyhood club Atletico Madrid this Wednesday evening and club president Enrique Cerezo would like to see him lift the trophy.
Even though Torres himself has said that he doesn’t mind whether he gets to raise the trophy, the president suggested this would be a fitting way for the striker to leave the club.
“The important thing is to win the trophy and then, once we’ve won it, anyone can lift it,” Cerezo said in Lyon.
“If it’s Fernando [Torres] then even better.
“I’ll tell the players what I always do, which is that they’re the ones who win and lost matches and that in this case I am convinced they will win.”
He was also asked about Antoine Griezmann and his future, but simply insisted that the Frenchman is an Atletico player.
