Athletic, Barcelona, Girona and Huesca go longest without changing grass
Grass, grass and more grass. It has never been such a hot topic before and all because of the match between Real Valladolid and Barcelona at the Estadio Jose Zorrilla, where the pitch was anything but firm.
Interestingly, there also seems to be a specialist in testing new pitches – Barcelona.
The Catalan club were the first team to play on Valladolid’s new turf and they will be the first to do so on Real Sociedad’s after the international break.
By then, the Basques will have the freshest of grass in all of LaLiga Santander.
One of the most curious stories is that of the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano which inherited the Estadio Vicente Calderon’s turf.
Each summer, Atletico Madrid’s stadium is used for events other than football, like rock concerts, which means the grass must be replanted every year.
This summer alone the Wanda Metropolitano saw 52,000 people dance to Iron Maiden songs, while Bruno Mars drew a crowd of more than 55,000.
The Vicente Calderon on the other hand has more experience when it comes to music having hosted the likes of The Rolling Stones (1982), David Bowie (1987), Pinck Floyd (1988), Michael Jackson (1988 and 1992) and AC / DC.
