Anthony Martial returns to Man Utd training amid on-going feud with Jose Mourinho

Anthony Martial has returned for Manchester United’s pre-season preparations for the first time since he went AWOL on their tour of the US to see the birth of his baby boy.

The Frenchman has not been seen for more than a week but rolled up to United’s Carrington facilities in his Range Rover to report for training on Friday morning.

Martial left United’s LA base against Jose Mourinho’s wishes and friction between the pair intensified this week with the striker hitting back at his boss by insisting ‘family comes first’.

The player responded on Wednesday by tweeting: ‘Thank you all for your posts. My little Swan is fine, for the mom it was harder but thanks to God she’s better now.

‘Sorry but my family will always come first… Back tomorrow in Manchester.’

The 22-year-old has not trained with his United team-mates for 10 days and could face a £180,000 fine, the equivalent of two weeks’ wages, if United decide that the unauthorised absence constitutes a breach of his contract.

Mourinho admitted earlier this week he was left in the dark over Martial’s return and had ‘no idea’ when the player intended to re-join the squad for pre-season training.

The United boss also publicly criticised the Frenchman for his failure to return to their US tour after attending the birth of his son in Paris.

The on-going feud with Mourinho has led to speculation over his future at the club with Tottenham and Chelsea both monitoring his situation closely.
