Antoine Griezmann’s grand finale
The best players always show up in the great European finals, and Antoine Griezmann undoubtedly falls into that bracket.
Barcelona target Greizmann started the final in Lyon with the terrible memory of the finals that he had played to date.
In the 2016 Champions League final in Milan, the Frenchman wasn’t successful in scoring the penalty that could have changed Atletico’s history, and months later, then with his national team at the European Championship, ‘The Little Prince’ couldn’t do anything to prevent Portugal from snatching the title.
Despite those crushing defeats, Griezmann scored the first two goals against Marseille that allowed his team to take the advantage in the Europa League final.
His double meant that he also emulated the last two strikers to score a brace in the last two European finals won by Atletico.
Diego Forlan grabbed two in 2010 against Fulham, and Radamel Falcao scored two of the three goals in 2012 against Athletic Club.
Griezmann’s numbers this season have been outstanding.
He’s played a total of 48 matches and has scored 29 goals, six of them in the Europa League.
